Shoreham by Sea

Extension at Tosca Restaurant, Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex

01. The Brief

The proposal aimed to enhance the rear of Tosca Restaurant by extending the dining area to improve the overall seating experience and take full advantage of the picturesque views across the river. The extension was designed to provide guests with a refined yet relaxed atmosphere that connects the interior space with its natural surroundings.
The objective was to create a bright and spacious dining environment where the beauty of the river becomes a central feature of the dining experience. Large glazed openings and a carefully considered layout ensure that every table benefits from natural light and uninterrupted views, enhancing both the aesthetic and ambiance of the restaurant.

02. Challenges & Considerations

Integrating the new structure seamlessly with the existing building required precise detailing to preserve the character of the original restaurant while introducing a more contemporary feel. Managing light levels and temperature within the glazed extension was essential to maintain comfort throughout the year without compromising the visual connection to the river.

03. The Outcome

Key Requests:

  • Extend the dining space to the rear to provide an enhanced guest experience.
  • Maximise the use of glazing to capture panoramic river views.
