Extension on Gordon Road, Worthing, West Sussex

This project involved designing a creative wrap-around extension that made the most of the unused side of the property without eating into too much of the existing garden. The aim was to strike a balance between indoor comfort and outdoor space, blending the new structure with the existing home and preserving the tranquil feel of the garden.

01. The Brief

The goal was to replace an outdated conservatory with a modern extension that could be used all year round. Alongside this, a gable-end loft conversion was planned to create a new master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.

As part of the wider vision, the existing outbuilding would be removed and the kitchen reimagined as a bright, open-plan space, offering a practical layout for everyday use and a sociable setting for entertaining.

02. Challenges & Considerations

One of the key technical challenges was concealing all steelwork within the ceiling void. This was crucial in achieving a clean, uninterrupted ceiling line and maintaining a minimal aesthetic.

Specific client requests included:

A large open-plan kitchen and dining space that made the most of natural light
A raised ceiling design that cleverly hides structural elements without compromising ground floor ceiling height
A welcoming atmosphere throughout the home

03. The Outcome

The finished result is a transformed family home with a spacious, modern kitchen and dining area at its heart. The design focused on clean, continuous lines, removing visible guttering along the rear elevation and creating a seamless ceiling with no bulkheads.

Glass-fronted bifold doors: These open the home up to the garden, filling the space with natural light and creating a smooth connection to the outdoors.
