House Extension – Worthing

“The primary objective was to design an innovative wrap-around house extension that expertly utilised the side area of the property without imposing too much on the existing garden space. This approach would maintain a harmonious relationship between the built environment and the surrounding outdoor area. By carefully considering the spatial requirements and layout of the extension, the design aimed to blend seamlessly with the existing structure, enhancing the overall functionality and aesthetics of the home while preserving its connection to the outdoors. The ultimate goal was to create a well-balanced living space that offered both comfort and style, without sacrificing the beauty and tranquility of the garden.”

The Brief

The Brief

The goal was to replace an outdated conservatory with a modern, year-round extension and construct a gable-end loft to establish a master bedroom complete with an ensuite bathroom. This would provide a versatile living space and a comfortable, private retreat for the homeowners.

Mission

The objective was to demolish the current outbuilding and transform the kitchen into a modern, open-concept living area, creating a stylish and functional space for daily use and socialising.

Challenges

Concealing all steelwork within the ceiling void to achieve a minimalistic and clean ceiling line, ensuring an uncluttered and seamless appearance in the space.

Key Requests
  • Develop a large, open-plan kitchen and dining area that emphasises space and natural light.
  • Ingeniously raise the ceiling to conceal steelwork without sacrificing ground floor ceiling height.
  • Maintain an inviting ambiance throughout the space.

The Outcome

The family home was transformed with the introduction of a new open-plan kitchen and dining area, designed to create a seamless and modern living space. The design emphasised clean lines by eliminating guttering along the rear elevation and featuring a continuous internal ceiling without any bulkheads.

Key Features
